20 Applicants File for Vacant Councilmember Position

In an effort to fill a vacant seat on the City Council following the appointment of Councilmember Paul Corderman to the State Delegate position, the Mayor and Council initiated an application and interview process for residents to express interest in serving the community as a member of the elected body. The City Clerk received 20 completed applications by the 4:30 p.m. deadline on Monday, January 8, 2018.

This is the initial list of applicants; qualifications of residency, voter registration status, and age will not be verified until Tuesday, January 9.

Mayor and Council will meet in Executive Session to review the applications on Tuesday, January 9 and select individuals for interviews. The selected candidates will be interviewed during a public Work Session on Tuesday, January 16, 2018. Mayor and Council may choose to conduct second interviews of selected applicants in Executive Session on Tuesday, January 23, 2018. This meeting will not be open to the public.

To close the process, the Mayor and Council will appoint the new Councilmember at a Special Session on Tuesday, January 23 or at the Regular Session on Tuesday, January 30. The selected candidate will take his/her Oath of Office at this time.
